Grok Bot automates work with two building blocks. A skill is a reusable set of instructions. A routine tells one Bot when to run it, either on a schedule or, where supported, after an event (xAI docs).
- Run the job once by hand. Paste a recipe prompt, check the output, and fix what was wrong.
- Save it as a skill. Ask: "Save the process we just used as a skill called 'Weekly account health'. Include the sources, the output format and the rule that customer contact always needs approval."
- Create the routine. Ask the Bot that should own the job: "Every weekday at 8:00 AM, run the Weekly account health skill. Post the result here. If the source data is unavailable, report the failure instead of using old data."
- Confirm the details. Check the owning Bot, the schedule and time zone, the inputs, the expected result, the approval boundary and what happens when a source is missing.
- Use Test run. A test run does real work, so use safe inputs.
Limits to know
- A Bot can own up to 50 routines, and the app keeps the 20 most recent run records for each.
- Schedules must be at least five minutes apart.
- Deleting a routine is immediate and can't be undone.
- Grok Bot may pause routines after you've been away a long time.
To find a routine later, open the Bot, choose View conversation details, then Routines.
